23rd Annual Wirt County Pioneer Day, Saturday, October 3, 2026:
Annual 23rd Wirt County Pioneer Days: The Elizabeth Beauchamp Chapter of the Daughters of American Pioneers hosts this weekend of events to provide family entertainment and share our historical knowledge of Wirt County.
On Saturday, October 3rd, the opening ceremony begins at 9 am with the Riding in Faith Horse Show Parade, opening vendor booths featuring crafts and delicious food. The Wirt County Middle School Essay Contest winners will be announced in the stage area. Rocky Point Farm will offer horse-and-buggy rides, and Dow Ras Farms Petting Zoo will return this year. Live music on stage starts at 10 am.
The annual antique car show will be held from 10 am - 2 pm. Register from 9 am – 10 am. Door prizes and a drawing for registered vehicles. Trophies for: Best of Show, People's Choice, Best Modern, Best Truck, Best Classic, and Diamond in the Rough.
Beauchamp-Newman Museum will be open for tours from 10 am to 3 pm. Tours the Little Kanawha Hotel, built in 1800 and currently owned by Dr. Heather Elkins. “Ghosts in Old Hotel” will be presented, and copies of the 1985 Ghost play will be available for purchase. Tour and presentation times are as follows: free tickets are available at the door, with a limit of 20 people per tour. Tours will be held from 10:00–10:45 AM, 11:00–11:30 AM, 1:00–1:45 PM, and 2:30–3:15 PM. “Music by Zach Butler” will be presented from 11:30 AM–12:15 PM.
The annual quilt show will take place from 10 am to 3 pm in the Wirt County Courthouse hallway, with registration on Friday, October 2nd, from 4 pm to 7 pm. The rock painting, pumpkin decorating, and coloring contests will be held on the museum lawn. Thomas Entertainment will provide a bounce house, and a duckie contest will be available for children.
Porchfluff Sutlery will host a Civil War Ladies Tea on the museum lawn at 9 am, with light refreshments and demonstrations of pioneer sewing and tatting. At 2 pm, Civil War Union and Confederate troops will stage a small skirmish, with artillery cannons positioned on the old Robert’s lot. Please note that this event may be loud for children and dogs.
On Sunday, October 5th, the second day of events will feature a Civil War infantry and artillery field reenactment. Campsites open to visitors at 9 am, and the battle begins at 2 pm. Guests are encouraged to visit with the soldiers and learn about their cannons, equipment, and uniforms. The field is located at the intersection of Routes 5 and 14, with plenty of parking available.
